What a catchy headline.
With this: The totally forgotten Honda L700
I find it baffling that this was Hondas idea of a simple delivery van. Almost handsome. Of course, being a Honda this thing was not just powered by any engine, it was propelled by an enlargened version of the super-high revving DOHC unit out of the S600 with, you guessed it, 687cc. In this application it made 52hp at 7500rpm and 57Nm of torque. Exactly what you want if you need to haul 900lbs of stuff around. That much power would have been insane in a FWD drivetrain so Honda's engineers wisely chose to make it RWD instead. Later cars had even more ridiculous 58hp and 62Nm of torque from a detuned S800 engine. Fuckers were good for 80mph which isn't half bad for a goddamn jalop as hell RWD manual 2-door wagon Van. Just over 20.000 L700 and L800 were produced between 1965 and 1967. The more you know, or rather you don't.
Also available as a Pick-up truck.

Little simple cars that do just what they need to do - and NO MORE - rule the world. We need them here in US America.

Yeah, and my understanding is that, in the insanely prosperous 1970s and 1980s Japan, there wasn't much of a used car market. People just kept buying new ones. So old cars had a massively high scrappage rate. Which is why - according to my understanding - vehicles like this Honda van and so many other 1960s JDM models are so "forgotten."
